Yasmine Hamdan “Iza” (George Bshoum remix)

To expand on her acclaimed 2nd album Al Jamilat (2017), Lebanese artist Yasmine Hamdan had invited distinguished artists & producers to rework tracks from the album. Entitled Jamilat Reprise (2018), the resulting collection revealed some of the lovely, secret perspectives hidden in the album.

After performing the album live around Europe, the US and the Middle East, Yasmine took some time off to work on the music supervision for acclaimed Palestinian filmmaker (-cum-Yasmine-husband) Elia Suleiman’s latest movie, It Must Be Heaven, for the soundtrack of which she also recorded elements. The film was awarded at Cannes. Incidentally, Yasmine has collaborated on Elia’s previous movies (and notoriously performed in the closing scene of Jim Jarmusch’s Only Lovers Left Alive). She’s now starting to work on music for her next album.

Coming back to Jamilat Reprise: nine out of the eleven original album’s tracks had been reworked, by the likes of Acid Arab, Matias Aguayo, Brandt Brauer Frick and more. Mysterious, recluse Middle-Eastern produced George Bshoum was going to tackle another song, but he disappeared for a while… and finally sent us his lovely, inspired take on Iza, which will now be coming out as a digital single.
